Supporting Education 7,000 Miles Away

on

Angela Hunt, social work major and freshman at UC Blue Ash, has always loved to help people. She wants to work with children in her future and values educational programs that support the schooling of unprivileged youth across the world. “When education becomes a priority in a community, it changes the entire culture of that group of people,” she says.

Hunt has been involved with an organization called Unified for Uganda since her high school years. This Cincinnati-based, non-profit organization started at Moeller high school, and it emotionally and financially supports the education of children in Uganda. These children are able to practice their English skills by writing letters to their sponsors in America and stay in touch with people who care for them.

While Angela attended Madeira High School, it partnered with Unified for Uganda. She eventually joined a chapter and became co-president and merchandise coordinator, helping to sell goods and raise money for the kids. In the summer of 2018, her junior year, she had the opportunity to fly overseas and meet Dorcus, the young lady she sponsors. “Dorcus and I are the same age, so meeting her and sponsoring her has been very personal for me.”

Angela wants to bring her love for these children and this organization to UC Blue Ash. On November 26 from 11:30-1:30pm, she will host an event on campus called Holiday Shop for a Causewhere you can purchase jewelry, pencil bags, hats, or handbags for the upcoming holidays. All proceeds will go toward helping educate these children in Uganda. Please stop by and visit Angela and her team as they collect funds and sell beautiful merchandise in the Muntz hallway outside of the café.
